Showdown Saturday

BD Stadium

It is officially November in the college football world and games with national championship implications are on the horizon. This is the week everyone loves to call “Showdown Saturday.” It is time to show what you are all about in some of the biggest games of the season and I will break down those games as well as my predictions for all of the Top 25 games.

The Dual in Death Valley

#16 Florida State @ #1 Clemson
The Seminoles has a big chance to get back into the playoff conversation Saturday. If the Noles can beat the #1 Tigers in Death Valley they can make a huge statement on why they deserve a spot in the CFB Playoffs. That is a lot easier said then done. Clemson is playing the best football they have played in decades and look like the clear favorite to win the ACC and make it to the college football playoff. This game is really the last chance for this Tiger team to make a statement to the committee. Clemson has a lot to play for and will be very determined to beat the Noles. Deshaun Watson is playing great at the QB spot and has all of the talent around him to make a big run this year. For Florida State there are still a lot of questions for the football team that lost their first regular season game since 2012. One of those questions will be who will be the starting QB come Saturday? FSU has had a lot of trouble offensively this season especially on the road. Sean Maguire looked good against a below average Syracuse secondary and the game was at Doak Campbell. If the Seminoles can find some offensive productivity and has some explosive plays during the game on Saturday the Noles might have a good chance at upsetting the Tigers. I believe FSU will have to play a near perfect gam to make this happen and it will all go down Saturday night in DEATH VALLEY.
PREDICTION: FSU 38 – Clemson 37

Going Toe-to-Toe in Tuscaloosa

#2 LSU @ #4 Alabama
A huge SEC showdown that can determine the SEC west champion and possibly a spot in the playoffs. It doesn’t get any better than that. College Gameday. The Tigers vs The Tide. Saban vs Miles. Fournette vs Henry. This game is set up to be an ole fashion southern slugfest. Smash mouth football at its finest. Both of these teams hate each other on the field and it seems every year they play the game has national implications on the line. This year LSU is the higher ranked team but Bama is still a slim 7-point favorite. I believe this game will come down to one play during the game. It might be on special teams, maybe on defense, or even on offense; but one play will make the difference during this battle. One thing I will be looking for is the QB battle. Everyone knows what these RBs have to offer. Both are strong down hill runners. The thing about these teams is that both QBs have questions. Jake Coker from Alabama has a great arm and has made some great plays this season. He has also tried to do way too much at times and made huge mistakes and has turned the ball over on those plays. Against LSU he is not going to be able to do that and not pay the price. On the other side of the ball Brandon Harris has done what he has been asked to do while giving the ball to Fournette. He has made the plays the coaches have asked of him. With both of these RBs going against top ranked run defenses these QBs will really have to step up. The one that steps up will be the one that leads his team to victory.
PREDICTION: LSU 28 – Alabama 24

Shootout in Stillwater

#8 TCU @ #14 Oklahoma State
One thing people can bet on is there will be a lot of points on the scoreboard at the end of this Big 12 shootout. Two strong offenses collide for one that might just get into the triple digits. Well maybe not that high but you get the point. Come Saturday the scoreboard in Stillwater will be lit up. Something that everyone wasn’t expecting is Oklahoma State sitting at 8-0 and #14 in the nation coming into this game vs TCU. This will be a huge test for both teams and I see a lot of points scored in this game. The Cowboys put up 70 points against Texas Tech and looked very good offensively late in the game. TCU scored 40 vs a pretty good West Virginia team and Trevone Boykin did his thing. The star QB had 388 yards passing with 3 TDs and another rushing score. The Frogs might be just a little ticked off that they came in at #8 in the first addition of the CFB committee rankings. This will be a perfect opportunity for TCU to show the committee how good this team is. OKST is 8-0 and has probably shocked everyone except the people in the locker room. This team really doesn’t have a big win on the schedule but if they can score enough points to upset TCU in Stillwater the committee might just have to start taking this team seriously. Mason Rudolph and J.W Walsh combined for 452 yards passing and 4 TDs. This team will have to get off to a much earlier start if they want to beat the Horned Frogs.
