What I learned this past Saturday

QB controversy in Tallahassee?

After Everett Golson sat out of the game Saturday vs Syracuse back up QB Sean Maguire came in and absolutely torched the Orange defense. Maguire went 23-35 with 348 yards and 3 Tds. He averaged 9.9 yards per pass attempt. He looked very confident in the pocket and made very quick decisions with the football. The one thing Maguire doesn’t have like Golson is mobility. Both of these QBs have there strengths but after Maguire’s performance Coach Jimbo Fisher will have a lot to think about in the next coming week of practice. The Seminoles take on #4 Clemson next Saturday in Death Valley.

Gators swamp Georgia!

On a beautiful Halloween afternoon in Jacksonville, Florida the Florida Gators and Georgia Bulldogs had their annual matchup. This one did not go the way the Bulldogs had hoped. The Gators jumped on them early and never let the defensive stranglehold go as the Gators beat Georgia 27-3. Georgia made a lot of mental errors and mistakes that didn’t help the cause. Florida’s offense did not look great by any means either but the defense looked faster stronger and quicker than the Georgia offense. Now the Gators lead their own way to the SEC East championship after being predicted to go 5th in the preseason. Next week the Gators take on Vanderbilt at The Swamp.

Miracle for Miami?!

Controversial is an understatement. Was his knee down? Was there a block in the back? Debatable or not the Hurricanes were rewarded a miracle 8 lateral kick off return for a touchdown with zero seconds on the clock the beat Duke and shake up the coastal standings. The Hurricanes used a new QB Malik Rosier to help the Canes beat the #22 Duke Blue Devils. This game was unbelievable all the way to the ending. At the end of the night the Canes won their first game under new Head Coach Larry Scott. Miami looked like they had more life under them throughout this game. Still a very tough game they didn’t give up until the clock hit ZERO.

Which Stanford is actually Stanford?

Stanford losses to Northwestern, then beats USC and UCLA and then squeezes by Washington State on a missed field goal. So what Stanford do we evaluate? Tonight’s Stanford did not look like a top 10 team. They were not successful doing what they do best which is run the ball. They struggled all night. At the Half the Cougars were up 12-3 and were in control of the football game. The Cardinals still have the showdown vs Notre Dame on Nov 28th, which will give us a great idea of what kind of teams both of these programs have. At the end of this night WSU lost this game, Stanford did not win it.

* Josh’s prediction record for last week was 16-1 with the only loss coming from Texas Tech not upsetting #12 Oklahoma St.
